Rumors that NVIDIA may produce its own robotaxi have sent shockwaves through the automotive sector. Following the Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution that made it the world’s most valuable company, NVIDIA could now become one of the biggest rivals to traditional automakers.
According to reports, the in-house robotaxi project will serve as a “technology showcase”, powered by NVIDIA’s DRIVE AGX Thor system and end-to-end neural networks.
If the rumors are true, this would mark a major turning point for the industry. NVIDIA is already more valuable than any automaker — including Tesla. This development would be akin to Bosch starting to manufacture its own cars: the biggest supplier becoming the biggest competitor.
With legacy automakers struggling to adapt to rapid technological change, and NVIDIA’s vast financial resources and leading AI technology in play, many are asking: “Why not?”
If realized, this project would make life even more difficult for automakers — following Tesla and Chinese brands, NVIDIA could be the next disruptive force. The automotive world is entering uncertain times; no one is safe.
