Kei cars are vehicles used in Japan’s cities that stand out for their compact dimensions. These cars are limited to a maximum length of 3.48 meters, a width of 1.48 meters, and a height of 2.0 meters. Their engine capacity cannot exceed 660 cc, and their power is capped at 64 horsepower. They are designed to accommodate four adult Japanese passengers.
Stellantis and Renault have long been advocating for this type of vehicle for urban use. Due to factors such as emission regulations and city vehicle bans, this segment is being promoted as a countermeasure to continuously declining car sales and the growing presence of Chinese manufacturers.
In Europe, step-by-step regulatory restrictions on car usage have led the industry to its current state. Decision-makers have reshaped the future of automobiles with these new rules, taking the sector in a completely new direction.
